School timings: There is severe heat in different parts of the country. The mercury has also risen in Jammu and Kashmir. Given the prevailing heat conditions in Kashmir, the authorities have announced a change in the timing of schools across the valley from next week.

According to an order issued by the Directorate of School Education Kashmir, the new timing in schools within the municipal limits of Srinagar city will be from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm, while in areas outside the municipal limits, the timing will be from 9 am to 3 pm.
The order said that the new timing will be effective from May 26, and it will apply to all government and recognized private schools. The instructions will be strictly followed by all schools, the order said. Currently, schools within the municipal limits of Srinagar city open at 9 am, while in areas outside the municipal limits open at 9.30 am.
Heat-like conditions prevail in most parts of the Kashmir Valley. On Thursday, the maximum temperature in Srinagar was recorded at 34.4 degrees Celsius, nine degrees above normal.
