PBKS vs RR Match 18: Final over review drama over suspected fielding restriction breach

In the 18th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Punjab Kings (PBKS) hosted Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Mullanpur. The home team was given a target of 206. PBKS struggled early and could not recover from the pressure created by RR bowlers. Despite a fighting partnership between Glenn Maxwell and Nehal Wadhera, they fell short of the target by 50 runs.

However, an unusual moment occurred on the final ball of the match. It appeared that RR had only three fielders inside the circle on the off-side, with none on the leg-side, making it a possible no-ball. pointed it out to the umpires. However, after a lengthy check, the umpires ruled it legal. The wait for the umpire's decision lasted quite a long time that Sanju Samson decided to sit down cross-legged on the field itself.

The outcome, however, did not affect the result where RR won the match convincingly, gaining two points in the end and taking the seventh spot on the points table.

RR posted a formidable total that proved to be well beyond the reach of the PBKS, because of the fiery spell from Jofra Archer. The right-arm pacer struck early, bowling out two Punjab batters in the very first over.

Despite a fighting partnership in the middle overs between Glenn Maxwell and Nehal Wadhera, who added 88 runs off 52 balls, PBKS struggled to keep up. Jofra Archer was named Player of the Match for his brilliant spell of 3 for 25, while the rest of the bowling unit also chipped in.

RR will take on Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, April 9, while PBKS will face Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at their home ground on Tuesday, April 8.
