The Ram Navami celebrations in West Bengal are being celebrated with multiple processions across the state, amid high level administrative and police vigil. First time, around 3000 Ram Navami rallies are scheduled to be brought out today across the state amid tightened security with around 5000 police personnel on road.
With around 3000 rallies proposed all across Bengal, which started from the morning with devotional music and processions. In Kolkata, there will be around 60 rallies. High vigil has been kept with 5000 police personnel will be on road and 30 Deputy Commissioners will be on road.
At least 30 senior officers from IG to SPs have been sent to various districts, including those which are considered sensitive. Ten districts have been identified as sensitive. Drone monitoring and social media surveillance are in place. Amid huge security deployment and in all the rallies, asenior level IPS officer will accompany.
Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma, “Regarding guidelines, we have held meeting with all the organizers and the guidelines of HC have been conveyed to all the organizers. Till yesterday we had several rounds of meeting so the orders of HC and other guidelines of local police-all these have been conveyed with the organizers We hope the people will be celebrate the festival without any hindrance. We don’t apprehend any disturbances. However, anybody tries to violate the guidelines issued by the police or HC, lawful action will be taken.”
Governor CV Ananda Bose offered puja at Ram Mandir on Central Avenue in Kolkata.
In various parts of the states- Howrah, Malda, Kolkata, Raiganj and Bankura, celebrations were at full vigour with colourful processions and devotional music. Viswa Hindu Parishad had brought out a huge rally in Coochbehar.
In Muslim dominated Malda, the minority community spread the words of harmony by offering sweets and water to the people participating in Ram Navami processions and flowers were sprinkled on the procession.
Ram Temple in Nandigram
Leader of Opposition in state Assembly Suvendu Adhikari laid the foundation stone of a Ram Temple in Nandigram, after offering his prayers and leading a procession in his assembly Constituency Nandigram.
“We will not do anything that will violate the rules. Sanatan dharma is a tradition which is 1000 years-old. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has offered her greetings but she should give equal treatment to all religion,”
More than one crore people will celebrate this year’s Ramnavami, Adhikari has said and urged the Hindus to participate in the rallies.
Meanwhile, the Ram Navami has become a focal point of political tussle between BJP and TMC. Political war of words have broken out between BJP and Trinamool over Ram Navami for the last few days. While BJP claimed that the Hindus are united and they will be on roads, Trinamool claims they will also celebrate Ram Navami and BJP is trying to gain an extra political mileage on the issue.
In Howrah, a change of route was proposed by police. However, the organizers moved Calcutta High Court, which was allowed by the court in the same route with certain conditions.
In Howrah, Anjani Putra Sena is the organizer of Ram Navami. Police had asked to change the route after which organizers moved the High Court. The court has given conditional permission to the procession on the same route. The court granted conditional approval for the procession, stating that no participant in the procession would be allowed to carry weapons. In 2023, a riot had broken out in Howrah. The organizers said, “Due to a mistake by the administration, some trouble broke out two years back. However, we will follow the guidelines of the HC and bring out the rally.”
