Importance of Hanuman Janmotsav

Why Hanuman Jayanti twice a year

There is a tradition of celebrating Hanuman Jayanti twice a year. Hanuman Janmotsav is celebrated once a year but there is a tradition of celebrating Hanuman Jayanti the second time as Vijay Abhinandan Mahotsav. According to Valmiki Ramayana, Hanumanji was born in a cave on the Chaturdashi date of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month, Aries Lagna and Swati Nakshatra. Therefore, this day is celebrated as the appearance festival of Hanumanji. At the same time, the full moon date of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month is celebrated as Hanuman Janmotsav. Hanuman Janmotsav is celebrated on the full moon date of Chaitra month and Vijay Abhinandan Mahotsav is celebrated on the Chaturdashi date of Kartik month.

First story

It is believed that once Hanumanji was feeling very hungry. Then he saw the Sun in the sky and started thinking it was a fruit and started running to eat it. On the same day, Rahu had also reached to make Sun God his prey, but seeing Hanumanji, Sun God mistook him for another Rahu. Devraj Indra attacked Hanumanji in an attempt to stop him, due to which he fainted. Hanumanji is also called Pawanputra and seeing such an act of Devraj Indra, he got angry and stopped the wind. This created a situation of crisis in the entire universe. The day Hanumanji got a second life, was the full moon day of Chaitra month, so this day is celebrated as Hanuman Jayanti.

Second story

According to another story, seeing Hanumanji's devotion and dedication, Sitaji gave him the boon of immortality. The day Hanumanji got this boon, it was the Chaturdashi date of Kartik month i.e. Narak Chaturdashi date. Therefore, this day is celebrated as Hanuman Jayanti. It is believed that by offering vermilion and chola on this day, Hanumanji is pleased and the planet Mars in the horoscope has an auspicious effect.
