Mumbai: The special MCOCA court has rejected the bail plea of Chetan Paradhi, 27, a photographer from Ambernath, booked for abetting the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique. He is accused of providing accommodation and helping them find a place for shooting practice.

Paradhi said that he was falsely implicated and that no allegation against him was there in the chargesheet. He had sought bail on the ground that neither he is a member of an organised crime syndicate nor is he involved in any conspiracy, and also he did not receive any monetary gain.
Paradhi Denies Role, Cites No Conspiracy or Gang Ties
He argued that though call data records established connection between him and other accused Pradeep Dumbre, Sambhaji Paradi and Nitin Spare, it cannot be considered as evidence for conspiracy. Mere conversations with his friends did not prove involvement in any conspiracy, said Paradhi.
It was further contended that as per the complaint, Siddique, 66, was having rivalry with the contractors, builders and politicians, however, no probe has been conducted in this regard.
Opposing the plea, special public prosecutor Mahesh Mule said, “The confession of co-accused, if read in toto, prima facie attributes role of the applicant in commission of the offence.”
Being a member of the crime syndicate, Paradhi rendered his service to pick up the shooter and also provided accommodation, Mule said. The accused also helped the co-accused find the place for practice of shooting, which shows prima-facie involvement in the crime, he added.

The court observed that at this stage, the material placed on record by the prosecution clearly demonstrates that the accused is complicit in this crime. “Considering nature of the offence, the possibility of repetition of similar crimes, being a member of a gang, cannot be ruled out,” the court said.
