Madhya Pradesh: Lawyer And Electricity Official Clash In Alot Over Two Electricity Meters

Send Push

Alot (Madhya Pradesh): A showdown between Congress spokesperson advocate Yogendra Singh Jadoun and electricity company Junior Engineer (JE) Amit Patidar that erupted over two electricity meters led to protests by local lawyers on Saturday night.

Jadoun alleges that JE Patidar arrived at his residence intoxicated during a routine complaint inspection and upon discovering two meters, accused him of theft. The advocate maintains that both meters were legally installed by the electricity company itself and that he pays all bills regularly.

Patidar counters that only one meter was officially approved for Jadoun's residence, making the second meter an unauthorised connection constituting electricity theft.

The conflict escalated when members of Alot Bar Association staged a four-hour sit-in protest outside local police station, demanding a medical examination of junior engineer to verify intoxication claims. Despite multiple calls from ASI Ashok Chauhan, Patidar reportedly did not appear for the examination.

Following intervention by SP Amit Kumar, authorities registered a case against Patidar for verbal abuse. However, the matter of medical examination remains unresolved. Electricity company Divisional Engineer Mahendra Mahida addressed the meter controversy, stating: ‘Why Advocate Jadoun has installed two electricity meters outside the house is a matter of investigation.

It's possible he initially got two connections, with one closed later but supply not disconnected. All this requires investigation.’

Bar Association president Mahendra Chaudhary led the protest alongside former President Shahid Khan, Lukman Khan Meo, Samar Singh Solanki and numerous other advocates from the local legal community. Neither side has indicated willingness to withdraw their allegations as investigations continue.
