A total of 41 Marathi films will be screened as part of the Marathi Film Festival 2025, set to take place from April 21 to 24 at PL Deshpande Maharashtra Kala Academy in Mumbai. The announcement was made by Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar during a press briefing held at Mantralaya on Tuesday (April 15).
The festival aims to meet international standards and will offer a rich mix of films spanning various genres including history, social justice, rural life, women-centric narratives, comedy, and children's stories.
The festival will open on April 21 with the film April May 99, directed by Rajesh Mapuskar. On the final day, April 24, the closing film will be Sant Dnyaneshwarchi Muktai, directed and produced by Digpal Lanjekar.

10 AM: Pani, Butterfly, YeRe YeRe Pavsa
1 PM: Baipan Bhari Deva, Vishay Hard, Ticha Shaher Hona
3 PM: Language-based films – International Falamfolk, Global Aadgaon, Ya Goshtila Naavach Nahi
6 PM: Godakath, Palashichi PT, Zollywood
8 PM: Bhera, Choricha Mamla (comedy), Pondicherry
April 23
10 AM: Barde, Godavari, Terav (based on farmers suicides)
1 PM: Sthal, Girkhi, Shaheed Bhai Kotwal (freedom struggle)
3 PM: Social equality-focused films inspired by Dr BR Ambedkar – Jayanti, Gaabh, Funeral
6 PM: Potra, Amaltash, Kulup
8 PM: Me Vasantrao, Baaplyok, Chhabila
April 24
10 AM: Sweet and Short, Raundal, Juna Furniture (directed by Mahesh Manjrekar)
1 PM: Madaar, Pawankhind (historical), Karkhanisanchi Waari
3 PM: Vaalvi (National Award-winner), Jaggu Ani Juliet, Y
All screenings are open to the public free of charge. Film lovers can register online, with offline registration also available at the venue.
Minister Shelar emphasised that the selection of films reflects the cultural diversity and storytelling depth of Marathi cinema. "From serious social issues to feel-good entertainers, the festival offers something for everyone," he said.
