More than two weeks have passed since the civic team inspected 'The Unicontinental Hotel' in Khar West, where comedian Kunal Kamra filmed his controversial video. Despite the considerable time that has passed, officials from the BMC are yet to submit their final report on the incident.
On March 25, officials from the civic H West ward inspected Habitat Studio, located within The Unicontinental Hotel, where comedian Kunal Kamra filmed a video mocking Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The BMC's inspection focused on whether the hotel had proper building approvals and if any violations had occurred. A report detailing any irregularities was expected to be submitted to Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani for further action.
However, two weeks have passed, and the report has yet to be submitted, as confirmed by sources. Meanwhile, Vinayak Vispute, the assistant municipal commissioner of H West ward who conducted the inspection, was transferred to G / North ward on March 28, as part of a routine transfer.
Dinesh Pallewad has since been appointed as the new assistant commissioner of the ward."We have asked the hotel to submit all necessary operating permissions to verify if the hotel adhered to proper building approvals and if any violations occurred. However, the hotel management has yet to submit the required documents, which is delaying the submission of the report," said a civic source.
Once the final report on the potential violations at the hotel is submitted to the Municipal Commissioner, action will be taken upon his approval. The official also added that action will be taken for using the basement as a studio space.According to the BMC, the basement where the studio is being set up was found to be illegal based on initial findings.
The BMC has already demolished a temporary shed in hotel premises that was found illegal.
