Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): A man in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur was arrested for allegedly posting offensive comments on the sensitive pictures of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
As police reported on Thursday, he not only made a shameful remark about one of the female victims, but also falsely accused her of having hired the shooter and using the terror attack as a chance to get rid of her husband.
The comment read, “This woman must be investigated. She might have hired the shooter and got rid of her husband when she got the chance.”
His words triggered widespread outrage among the public.
Accused resident of New Anand Nagar
According to information, the accused was identified as Mohammad Osaf Khan, a 37-year-old resident of New Anand Nagar, Pump House.
The disturbing comments on Facebook came to light while the nation is mourning the loss of 28 Indians and offering condolences to the victims' families.
Case registered under Section 196(1)
The matter was reported to Hanumantal Police Station by a local citizen named Abhay Srivastava, who filed a written complaint. Acting swiftly, the police arrested Mohammad Osaf Khan and registered a case against him under Section 196(1) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). He will be presented in court sooner.
Additional SP Crime Branch Sonali Dubey, stated that any insensitive or provocative remarks during such sensitive times will not be tolerated. She assured that strict action will be taken against those trying to divide society or insult victims. She also added that the police are closely monitoring social media and anyone posting harmful or disrespectful content will face legal consequences.
After the arrest, many citizens have urged the administration to take strict and immediate action in such cases to prevent similar incidents in the future.
