CM Yogi described the redevelopment as a “synergy of speed and pride,” aligning with the vision of a ‘New India.’ In a post on X, he highlighted the inclusion of modern amenities and regional design in the updated stations.
The revamped stations in Uttar Pradesh include Govindpuri (Kanpur), Balrampur, Bareilly City, Bijnor, Fatehabad, Govardhan, Gola Gokarna Nath, and others such as Hathras City, Idgah Agra, Izzatnagar, Karchana, and Saharanpur. Features include digital signage, waiting lounges, lifts, and energy-efficient infrastructure.
While the initiative is positioned as a transformative step, the focus on beautified stations comes amid criticism over persistent service issues in rural rail networks and unfulfilled track modernization in economically weaker regions.
Officials claim the project will boost tourism and local economies, but detailed ridership impact assessments remain unpublished.
The ₹1,100 crore project is part of a wider plan to revamp over 1,300 stations. Since 2014, the Centre claims to have electrified 47,000 km of rail lines and introduced trains like Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat. However, broader questions about equitable infrastructure development continue to surface.
