The Anti-Extortion Cell of Thane Police has arrested a 52-year-old man, identified as Surendra Patil, a resident of Thakurli in Dombivli, who was absconding in connection with two separate rape cases.
According to police, the first case was reported at Manpada police station on April 1, 2025. Patil allegedly raped a 19-year-old woman under the pretext of offering her a job at Mumbai Airport. The incident occurred between February 16 and March 29 this year in Dombivli. As per the FIR, Patil met the victim through Instagram and lured her with a fake job offer. He then called her to his office, where he allegedly raped her at gunpoint and threatened to kill her parents. On March 29, he reportedly raped her again, this time threatening to leak an intimate video of her on social media. The victim later approached the police and filed a complaint.
The second case was filed at Dombivli Tilak Nagar police station on April 3, 2025. Patil is accused of raping a 29-year-old woman between August 18, 2023, and March 30, 2025, also in Dombivli. He had allegedly promised to return her tools and machinery but instead exploited the situation to sexually assault her.
The Manpada police booked Patil under Sections 64, 74, 115(2), 352(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), while the Dombivli Tilak Nagar police registered a second FIR under Sections 376(2)(N), 504, and 506 of the BNS.
Assistant Police Inspector Sunil Tarmale of the Anti-Extortion Cell said, “We received reliable intelligence about the accused’s whereabouts. A police team was dispatched to Nashik, where, with the help of Indira Nagar Police, we apprehended him from a hotel on Friday. He was brought to Thane by midnight on Saturday and produced in court, which remanded him to police custody.”
Tarmale added that Patil already has 13 criminal cases registered against him in the Kalyan-Dombivli region, including cases of cheating, bodily offences, and Arms Act violations.
