Karan Oberoi Rape Case Update: Court Action to Continue Against Pooja Bedi, Sudhanshu Pandey, and 5 Others for Revealing Victim's Identity

A major development has emerged in the 2019 rape case involving TV actor Karan Oberoi. The spotlight has now shifted to a separate case registered against seven individuals, including actress Pooja Bedi and Anupamaa actor Sudhanshu Pandey, for allegedly revealing the identity of the rape survivor—a violation of Section 228A of the Indian Penal Code.

What Happened?

In May 2019, a press conference was held at Pooja Bedi's residence, where the name and personal details of the woman who had accused Karan Oberoi of rape were allegedly revealed. This information later circulated widely on social media and remains accessible online even today.

As a result, a complaint was filed, and the case was taken up by the Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Andheri, Mumbai.

Court Rejects Appeal to Quash Proceedings

The defense representing Pooja Bedi and others argued that the disclosure was unintentional, and their motive was not malicious. They also claimed that no personal or sensitive information was shared deliberately. However, the court dismissed the appeal, stating clearly that:

“If more than one person is involved in disclosing the victim’s identity, then each one will be held accountable under the law.”

Karan Oberoi is a singer and TV actor, known for shows like Swabhimaan, Aahat, Inside Edge, and Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin. During his peak TV career, he was also known for his relationship with Jassi lead actress Mona Singh.

In 2019, he was arrested following a rape allegation but was later granted bail after inconsistencies were found in the complainant's story. The separate case regarding the disclosure of the victim’s identity, however, has remained active.
