It's hard to believe it's been over a year since the world said goodbye to one half of the Hairy Bikers, Dave Myers. The TV chef, who also gained fame following his stint on Strictly Come Dancing, died following a courageous battle with cancer in February 2024.
However, even though he was very open about his cancer journey, it's recently been revealed he was suffering with something in "secret". According to his wife, Liliana Myers, there was a lot of "pain" people didn't get to see, esepcially when it came to Dave saying his final farewell to the Hairy Bikers, and she recently detailed some of it in a heartbreaking Facebook post.
Liliana wrote: "Heads up…BBC have been in touch to say they have planned in a repeat run of the 7-epsiode series ‘The Hairy Bikers Go West’ from Tuesday, July 15 July at 7pm. This is Dave’s last series, filmed while he was in treatment… the one I couldn’t bring my self to watch.

"I talk about this in my book ‘Dave & Me’, about the effort, the pain, the suffering he was going through while working on this series…but also about his joy of doing what he loved one more time.
"For many reasons this series is heartbreaking for me to watch, as I know how unwell he was and what a superhuman effort he made to finish the series. But also, I’ll never forget the look on his face once filming was done. He knew it would be his last…my brave man!"
Since Liliana shared the post, it has been liked thousands of times and dozens of people offered words of support. People admitted they thought Dave was a "lovely man."
One touching tribute read: "I watched the series a couple of times with my dad and cried my way through the last few episodes. A tremendous testament to Dave’s courage, determination and his huge personality.
"Not forgetting Si, for his deep friendship and love for Dave, knowing that this would be their last blast together. It must have been heartbreaking for the both of them, in a number of different ways. For those two about to rock on together, we salute you."
Another wrote: "I completely understand why you can’t bring yourself to watch it. I can say to you that it is brilliant and it captures the strength of the huge bond between Si and Dave.
"Dave’s fans are so glad he did it. I think that it was his way of saying goodbye, but also to share the great camaraderie he had with his best mate just one more time.
"You can see in their faces the pain they are both going through knowing that things will change permanently and soon. It’s a masterpiece at the end of the Hairy Bikers reign. Your Dave was a life force and a very brave one too."
A third also replied: "Oh Liliana, it must be difficult for you to watch. I watched it all and loved it, but found it very moving to see how emotional the boys were throughout!
"Always loved and followed them from the start and can't quite believe Dave has left us! He is truly missed by all of us, but especially you and Simon. But we have lovely memories of him and he will never be forgotten."
Dave met his future wife in Romania years ago while filming The Hairy Bikers' Cookbook. He was captivated by the charming hotel worker who would later become his partner.
Their connection endured despite the miles separating them, and her trip to the UK saw their friendship blossom into love. His partner warmly reminisced: "I was blown away by one tiny little thing.
"He picked me up from the airport. It was about midnight and he opened the fridge and he said, 'What do you want me to cook for you?'
"I'd never ever in my life had a man cook for me. So that was the very first thing that just hit me. I was visiting as a friend, but from that moment on my heart just melted."
Sadly, Myers passed away at the age of 66, leaving behind a legacy of charm and culinary adventure. Since then, Liliana has expressed the deep sense of loss she feels, receiving an outpouring of support from the public who have shared their condolences online.
Liliana has also written a book about Dave, and life without him, called Dave & Me. It is available to order now.
