There's going to be a death on EastEnders pretty soon, the BBC soap has announced. The show is going to kill off a character with the news shared onscreen, while it's yet to be detailed if it's already happened.
The death itself is unlikely to be shown, but saying that there's enough time for this to happen ahead of the character's funeral which was being filmed this week. That means the farewell for the character will air in around six to eight weeks time, judging by the amount of time normally between filming and transmission.
Callum Highway's father Jonno will be killed off with his death set to be announced in the coming weeks. Any scenes linked to the death and the moment Callum finds out have already been filmed it's believed. It comes as the show confirmed the returns of Ben Mitchell and Stuart Highway for the funeral, which was being filmed this week.

New images show actors Max Bowden and Ricky Champ reprising their roles as Callum's husband Ben and brother Stuart, after recent reports that the returns were on the horizon. The soap has confirmed it's only a guest stint for both characters, which were currently being filmed.
Both characters will appear "in a few episodes" later this year with the scenes set to air in Autumn. Pictures show Ben stood beside Callum wearing handcuffs, with him currently in prison in the US.
Spoilers reveal Ben heads to the funeral, still cuffed, to support Callum while he is on day release. As for Stuart, he's there along with Callum to say a final farewell to their father.
Callum is joined by pal and current fling Johnny Carter, sparking speculation Ben may find out Callum has cheated on him with Johnny. The spoilers tease Callum's feelings for Johnny could soon grow, making his reunion with Ben pretty difficult to say the least.

It's said things will not be smooth sailing at all and "a lot can happen in a short amount of time". So will fans get the Ballum reunion for Ben and Callum they have been hoping for, or will their family be torn apart by his betrayal with Johnny?
More information will be released closer to the time, as well as spoilers detailing the death of Jonno. Viewers will remember homophobic Jonno briefly being in Walford, with him targeting son Callum over his sexuality and his romance with Ben.
Ben's father Phil Mitchell soon put him in his place making it clear he wasn't welcome, and punching him in the pub. Jonno was last onscreen in 2019 after he disowned his son.
