EasyJet Alicante to Manchester flight in emergency divert to Gatwick Airport

An flight from Alicante to Manchester has diverted to after declaring an on board.

Flight U25521 reportedly declared an emergency when flying over the southern British coast this morning. The plane, bound for , landed on runway 26L at Gatwick Airport around 8.30am on Sunday. It is not clear exactly what the medical emergency was but the plane was met by emergency services when it landed at the major London airport.

In a statement to The easyJet said: "Flight EZY5521 from Alicante to Manchester today, 25 May, has been required to divert to London Gatwick, due to a customer onboard requiring urgent medical attention.

"The passenger was met in London Gatwick by medical services and the flight is planned to continue to Manchester. The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is always easyJet’s highest priority."

This has not been the only time in recent weeks where an easyJet flight has been forced to make an emergency landing. A service from Tenerife to Liverpool to a northern Spanish airport due to a medical emergency on board.

Attempts were made to "revive a 67-year-old passenger who was unconscious", on March 25.

The pilot put out an urgent request for any doctors or nurses onboard to come forward before it made its unscheduled landing at Santiago-Rosalia de Castro Airport in Galicia. Passengers on board were put up in local hotels for the night, before continuing their onward journeys.

Another easyJet flight was forced to make an emergency after a flyer was convinced there were . The flight, from Gatwick Airport to Marrakesh, Morocco, landed in Faro on April 19.

The man, dressed in a snake print T-shirt, is thought to have been hallucinating, reportedly shouting: "Snakes on a plane! We need to land!".

A source said it soon became clear that the passenger was allegedly under the influence and "imagining things". They said: "It sounds funny to hear a passenger screaming 'Snakes on the Plane!' but it was incredibly scary for the families on the easyJet flight.

"No-one quite knew what was going on, or initially if the flyer had actually seen a snake loose among the cabin at 30,000ft." Police were waiting for the man on the runway, upon arrival.

The man was led off the aircraft and the 190-passenger plane then departed again to its original destination.

A month before the "snakes" plane incident, another easyJet passenger was removed from a plane for unleashing a vile, racist rant onboard. A woman in her 50s was removed from a flight from Belfast to Manchester.

Eyewitness Shauna Corr, 44, described the incident, saying: "The lady involved was a few rows in front of me - I felt very sorry for the couple sat behind her and children on the flight."

She continued: "Her language was atrocious and racist, she was making very derogatory comments about people including Muslims - at one stage she even struck out at Ukrainian people."
