Freddie Flintoff film detailing major Top Gear crash confirms release date - and it's very soon

The full horror car of Freddie Flintoff’s car smash while filming Top Gear will be laid bare in a feature-length documentary to air from April 25, Disney+ has confirmed. The 90-minute film will chart the highs of his cricketing career and the lows he has suffered since sustaining life-changing injuries when a vehicle he was driving flipped over in December 2022.

The documentary is being made by the production team behind his cricketing series Field of Dreams, South Shore, and directed by Bafta-winner John Dower, who was granted exclusive access to Freddie over the past year to film his ongoing recovering and document his sporting career.

said: “Cricket’s always been a massive part of my life, shaping who I am. Looking back on the highs and the lows, including the challenges I’ve faced since my accident, has been a real reminder of why my career in the sport has meant so much.”

Freddie, 47, has told how he believed he was close to dying, and how he was left "crying every two minutes” and suffering from anxiety, nightmares and flashbacks.

The presenter sustained broken ribs and serious facial injuries in the accident, over which the paid him a reported £9million in compensation.

Flintoff's crash was so bad that staff who witnessed it had to be as they struggled to come to terms with what they had seen.

Top Gear has since been taken off air, with taking on the new role as host of Inside the Factor. Fellow Top Gear host has since told a podcast that he feels guilt over the incident, because he had previously warned BBC bosses that “someone is going to die” unless health and safety standards were improved, but was “shut down”.
