Gary Neville has been left red-faced after did the unexpected and agreed to pay a cool £10million to sign one month early. Alexander-Arnold, 26, has , having entered the final six weeks of his deal with boyhood club Liverpool.

In response, Neville asked: "Would you take like a million quid if you were Liverpool for the Club World Cup?" Carragher replied: "Er, I think I'd want more than a million quid."
Neville wanted an answer, though. "But would you take, would you take whatever price it would be to let him go and play in that tournament?" the former captain asked.
"I think if it was about five or 10 million quid," Carragher said before Neville started laughing. Sky presenter Dave Jones then chimed in, putting to Carragher: "What is it, a hundred million to win the thing?"
"Exactly," the Liverpool legend responded. "Have you seen how much money it is to win it?"
"So you could help a major European rival by helping them win the thing?" Jones asked. Carragher fleshed out his argument by explaining: "Right, well, but if they're going to win a hundred million and he's going to help them, because don't forget, they haven't got any right-backs.

"The right-back they play there [midfielder Federico Valverde] is not a right-back. So it's not just like bringing a player in. Give us 10 million quid."
Neville concluded the chat by saying: "Well, the price has just been set, Madrid," as the trio, plus , laughed.
Real were ultimately happy to pay the price in order to make sure that Alexander-Arnold will be part of squad for the tournament. The Spanish giants begin their campaign against champions in Miami on Tuesday, June 18.
