As we enter the awkward stage in between summer and autumn, getting dressed can pose something of a challenge. It’s still too warm for heavy knits and coats, but there’s a definite chill in the air which makes your denim jacket and midi dress obsolete.
That’s why a lightweight knit is the solution to just about all of your outfit conundrums, and Louise Thompson has found the perfect one. Praising her Porta Cashmere Henley from Free People, Louise said it was “the best cashmere jumper for transitioning from summer to autumn” and praised it for how it “goes over everything.”

The lightweight knit is the perfect layering piece, and as Louise pointed out, it can be worn over everything from dresses and skirts to jeans, wide leg trousers and leggings, keeping you warm without overheating. The former Made in Chelsea star also added: “I have a pile of these jumpers in about six different colours. One of my better wardrobe investments.”
The Porta Cashmere Henley comes in nine different shades and is made from 100% cashmere, which makes it super soft, breathable and comfortable to wear. It has a relaxed, slouchy fit with raglan cut sleeves, elasticated cuffs and functional buttons halfway down the front, making it even easier to layer with T-shirts, collared shirts and polo necks underneath.
It is priced at £158, which is quite the splurge for many, so if you’re looking for some more affordable alternatives, we’ve got you covered. At Boden, the Eva Cashmere Crew Neck Jumper is usually priced at £129, although you can use the code MY7P to save 15% on new-in styles, bringing the price down to £109.65.
H&M also has its Cashmere-Blend Jumper priced at £129.99, which comes in both chocolate brown and cream (perfect autumnal shades) and is made from 90% wool and 10% cashmere. If you’re more interested in a cashmere feel than it being real cashmere, Fenwick has slashed the price of the American Vintage East V Neck Knit Jumper from £140 to just £42.

However Louise’s Porta Cashmere Henley has been getting plenty of rave reviews from shoppers, with one saying: “Soft and scrumptious...bought the brown color, TTS, and simple a treat to own. Highly recommend.” Another agreed: “It’s a little pricey but very soft and light weight. Great for days that you don’t want to wear too many layers but still stay warm.”
Another was following in Louise’s footsteps, writing: “I ordered the pearl color in small and returned it for x-small. For reference I am 5'3" and 130 lbs. I then ordered the brown and the lavender is next on my list. Very soft, flexible style. This is something that will never go out of style and will go with anything. Yes, I do want it in every color.”
However some weren’t quite as taken with the Porta Cashmere Henley, with one shopper complaining: “For 100% cashmere this sweater is NOT soft. Not quite scratchy, but not far off of it. The sleeves are giant bat wings, and so long they cover my fingertips. The color is nice tho, and the button placket is cute. Undecided yet whether I’m keeping it.”
Others disagreed, however, saying: “Absolutely stunning. The fit is flattering, the material is unbelievably soft, and the color… Gorgeous. It’s that perfect effortless piece that feels luxurious but still super wearable. I’ve already reached for it multiple times. It’s just that good worth every penny.”
