A one-year-old baby has been injured along with eight other in a serious crash on the M6 yesterday, police have confirmed.
A total of eight remain in hospital - five with serious injuries - although none are thought to be life threatening. The driver and front seat passenger of the BMW, a man and woman both in their 30s, along with a girl, six, who was a rear seat passenger, reportedly suffered serious injuries.
The incident happened between J33 near Lancaster and J32 (M55, for Blackpool), causing major delays. A Lancashire Police spokeswoman said yesterday: “The M6 North and Southbound between junction 33 to Forton Services is currently closed due to a road traffic collision.

“We anticipate that the road will be closed for some time, whilst we clear the road. There is also a closure on the A6 roundabout (Preston Lancaster Road) at Junction 33 on M6."
Lancashire Police said a BMW 4 Series collided with a Honda CR-V, causing both cars to hit the central reservation barrier. The Honda then hit a Nissan X -Trail and the BMW then collided with a Honda HR-V.
The force issued a further update later on the same day: "We let you know earlier about a collision on the M6 and we wanted to let you know the latest. At 10:27am this morning, we received a report of a multi-vehicle collision, between Junctions 33 and Forton Services on the M6 Southbound.
"Our officers, and other emergency service colleagues remain at the scene and there are a number of casualties who have been taken to hospital. The motorway remains closed between Junction 33 and the services southbound and diversions are in place.
"Northbound is open with speed restrictions in place. We anticipate that the southbound motorway will be closed for some time as we and our colleagues continue to respond to the incident.
"We know that it may be frustrating to have your journey delayed, or your route changed. We ask that you please be patient and understand that our officers and colleagues are working to resume normality as soon as they can.
"At this stage, our priority is responding to the collision, and we will bring you updates when we are able to. If you witnessed the collision, or have information or dashcam footage, please get in touch on 101 quoting log 0430 of 14th July."
