Rains lashed several parts of Delhi on Friday, 18 July, with the weather department issuing a 'yellow alert' for the national capital.
A 'yellow alert' by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicates ‘be aware’. The IMD has advised residents to stay alert due to changing weather conditions.
The weather department said that light to moderate rainfallaccompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds ranging from 30-50 km/h is very likely to occur at many places in Delhi and the NCR region in the coming hours.
Meanwhile, the minimum temperature was recorded at 23.6 degrees Celsius, while the maximum is likely to settle around 35 degrees.
School holiday
In Rajasthan, heavy rainfall left several low-lying areas of Kota, Pushkar and Ajmer inundated. Authorities in Ajmer declared a holiday in schools due to the heavy rainfall.
Pushkar witnessed incessant rainfall for several hours, leading to flood-like situation in several low-lying areas. Shops and houses in the main market area were submerged, while vehicles were seen floating on waterlogged streets.
In Kota, gates of the Kota Barrage were reopened on Friday, 18 July, following continuous rain in the region. Sikar also recorded heavy rain in the morning, causing waterlogging in several areas.
Heavy rainfall is expected to continue, a Met department official said.
The weather department has forecast heavy to very heavy rains in several places in Kota, Ajmer, Jodhpur and Udaipur divisions.
Red alert for extremely heavy rainfall has been issued for Ajmer, Bhilwara, Bundi, Kota, Tonk and Pali while orange alert for very heavy rains is in place for Baran, Chittorgarh, Jhalawar, Pratapgarh, Rajsamand, Sawai Madhopur, Sirohi, Udaipur and Nagaur.
At the same time, yellow alert has been sounded for Banswara, Dausa, Dungarpur, Jaipur, Karauli, Sikar, Jalore and Jodhpur.
