Former PM Imran Khan Launches Scathing Attack on Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir Amid Political Crisis
In a dramatic escalation of political tensions in Pakistan, former Prime Minister Imran Khan has publicly accused Army Chief General Asim Munir of undermining the country’s constitution and prioritizing personal power over national interest. Speaking from prison, where he has been held for the past two years, Khan made a series of explosive claims, calling the current government and its institutions “unconstitutional” and labeling Munir a threat to democracy.
Imran Khan’s Explosive AllegationsIn a recent social media post, Khan accused General Munir of running the country like a personal fiefdom with the backing of Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI. He said, “Today, Pakistan is being ruled by laws made by General Munir, and ISI is fully supporting him. He is willing to sacrifice national interests just to maintain his grip on power.”
Khan did not stop there. Drawing a historical parallel, he compared General Munir’s current role to that of General Yahya Khan, the controversial military ruler held responsible for the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. “Just like Yahya Khan brought disgrace to the military, General Munir is damaging its image for personal ambition,” Khan said.
A Broken System? The former premier claimed that all major pillars of the Pakistani state—including the Senate, National Assembly, Prime Minister, and even the President—are functioning without constitutional legitimacy. “A puppet constitutional court was set up just to reduce our party's seats in Parliament,” Khan alleged, referring to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), his own political party.
He added that PTI’s seats were unlawfully handed over to rival candidates and that constitutional institutions like the judiciary have been filled with individuals loyal to General Munir. “These courts are no longer delivering justice; they are just tools in the hands of the establishment,” Khan asserted.
Judiciary and Electoral System Under FireIn his fiery statement, Imran Khan also attacked Pakistan’s judicial system, specifically naming the Islamabad High Court. “One judge hasn’t heard my appeal in seven months because he’s waiting for orders from Munir,” Khan claimed. He further slammed Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, accusing him of overseeing “the biggest electoral fraud in Pakistan’s history.”
Khan warned that Pakistan’s democracy and state institutions are on the brink of collapse. “There is no law in the country anymore. Only General Munir’s will prevails,” he declared.
Allegations of Psychological TortureImran Khan also opened up about personal trauma, saying his wife Bushra Bibi is being mentally tortured as a way to pressure him. “She is being used as a weapon against me. But let me be very clear—I'd rather die than accept General Munir’s dictatorship,” Khan said, showing no signs of backing down despite his imprisonment.
PTI's Next MoveKhan’s latest remarks come just weeks before his party is set to launch a massive nationwide campaign against what he calls a “puppet regime.” According to political insiders, PTI is preparing for widespread protests, accusing the current leadership of being installed by the military.
