TV chef Anne Burrell's cause of death has been revealed a month after she died at the age of 55. The Food Network star was found unresponsive in her Brooklyn home on June 17, but no cause of death was revealed at the time. It has now been confirmed that the star died by suicide from "acute intoxication due to the combined effects of diphenhydramine, ethanol, cetirizine, and amphetamine". The City of New York Office of Chief Medical Examiner concluded its investigation on Thursday and cited suicide as her official manner of death.
At the time, a New York Police Department spokesperson told Page Six that she had been found on the morning of June 17 at her Brooklyn apartment, where she was later pronounced dead when emergency services arrived. Her death was announced in a statement from her family five weeks ago. "Her smile lit up every room she entered. Anne's light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal," it read.
When news of her death broke, The Food Network also paid tribute via a spokesman for the culinary channel.
It said: "Anne was a remarkable person and culinary talent - teaching, competing and always sharing the importance of food in her life and the joy that a delicious meal can bring.
"Our thoughts are with Anne's family, friends and fans during this time of tremendous loss."
Anne began her TV career in 2005 when she joined Mark Ladner for a pilot episode of Food Network's Iron Chef US series.
She then hosted her own successful series, Secrets of a Restaurant Chef, in 2008.
In 2009, she appeared on the show The Best Thing I Ever Ate. Anne was also famed for hosting Worst Cooks in America, which has been running for the last 15 years with 28 seasons.
She is survived by her partner, Stuart Claxton, whom she married in 2021. The couple met on the dating app Bumble in 2018.
