CNN halted for breaking news - and it's 'major defeat' for Donald Trump

was brought to an abrupt halt this week as Inside Politics host Dana Bash delivered a crushing blow for US president . While hosting the show on May 16, Dana announced "breaking news" amid Trump's efforts to pass his latest bill.

She told viewers: "Breaking news, President Trump's legislative agenda, what he calls his one big beautiful bill, just failed to make it out of a key committee. Five Republicans jumped ship and joined Democrats to vote down the bill."

Trump's signature legislation, which proposes extended tax cuts, mass deportations of undocumented immigrants and ending taxation of tips and overtime, was derailed as Republicans joined Democrats to block it, arguing it does not make deep enough cuts to federal spending.

Texas representative Chip Roy argued: "This bill falls profoundly short. It does not do what we say it does, with respect to deficits." Trump wants the bill on his desk by July 4th, and urged on his social media platform Truth Social: "Republicans MUST UNITE behind 'THE ONE BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL'. We don't need 'GRANDSTANDERS' in the Republican Party, STOP TALKING AND GET IT DONE."

Democrat CNN viewers branded the announcement a "stunning moment", with one writing: "BREAKING: In a stunning moment, CNN just reported that Donald Trump's big beautiful bill is being rejected by Republicans on Capitol Hill. This is a major defeat for Donald Trump. Let's go."

Another echoed: "Massive blow. Trump's so-called 'big beautiful bill' just got torched - by his own party. Capitol Hill Republicans want none of it. Guess the art of the deal isn't bulletproof after all."

Others vehemently disagreed, however, with one writing: "And in today's stunning lie, you failed to mention that several Republican Congressmen wanted some minor changes and are re-voting on Sunday night."

Another posted: "The reason is they didn't cut enough so I guess they can cut some more and you guys will be happy when that hits the floor for a vote."
