Motorists could get up to a £1,500 discount after purchasing one of 22 fully electric vehicles as part of Labour's new EV grant. The Government confirmed the £650million grant earlier this summer, with prospective buyers waiting patiently to find out what vehicles valued at under £37,000 are eligible for savings.
Almost all types of vehicles are included on the list, with more sporty options such as the Alpine A290 available for savings. Meanwhile, Plucky hatchbacks such as the Renault 5 and Volkswagen ID.3, as well as SUVs like the Citroen e-C3 Aircross are also on the list. The Government had suggested discounts of up to £3,750 would be available but at this stage, no models are eligible for the full savings.
It means road users can only secure up to £1,500 off vehicles but could still act as an extra incentive to those on the fence around switching. Other models eligible for discounts include the popular Vauxhall Astra Electric and Volkswagen ID.3.
The Nissan Micra, Peugeot e-208 and Renault Megane are also among popular electric car picks which now come at a reduced rate. Despite the initial announcement in June, it has taken weeks for the Government to finalise details on which cars would receive the savings.
This has led to uncertainty with officials taking over three weeks for the first four eligible models from Citroen to be announced. The delays are said to have had a negative effect on car dealers with many reporting holding off on finalising sales until further information is available.
Guy Pigounakis, commercial director at MG Motor UK, told Fleet News, that order take for electric cars under £37,000 "quite literally stopped" after the announcement.
Chinese vehicles are also a notable absence from the list with the Government previously confirming the models would likely not feature on the scheme.
However, China has taken matters into its own hands with brands such as MG. GWM and Leapmotor all launching their own individual discount schemes to compete.
