Upon unboxing the vacuum last May, I was struck by its lightweight and ergonomic design. It has a sleek appearance, and the attachments fit snugly onto the unit without any need for force.

To truly test the Shark, I had a real challenge in mind - my husband's car boot. Admittedly, this hadn't been hoovered for some time, and is frequently used to transport our beloved greyhound, who has notoriously fine hair. This hair easily embeds into soft furnishings and has proven stubborn to remove with any vacuum we've tried so far.

The pet attachment struggled to pick up debris between the grooves in the base of the car boot. Despite repeated passes over them, it didn't seem to make much difference, but it did manage to pick up larger bits like pine needles well.

However, it excelled on flat pieces of carpet along the edges and the seat backing, which required fewer passes to lift out the pet hair. The battery died after about 20 minutes of use while cleaning the car boot with the pet attachment. Shark claims that the Handheld Pet Vacuum can run for 'up to 10 minutes of run-time per charge,' making it perfect for quick clean-ups.

It also boasts 'no-fade Lithium-ion technology ensures lasting power and performance. ' In this case, it exceeded Shark's promises, but a longer battery life would be beneficial for more extensive tasks.

That being said, it seems that has prioritised suction power over battery life in this handheld model - which I find more useful. I've owned cheaper models that last for 30 or even 40 minutes, but their weak suction power made me resort to our reliable, albeit heavy, Dyson to get the job done properly.
