This year's I'm A Celebrity line-up has been officially announced, and fans won't have to wait long until the launch of the new series. However, those who tune in to the return of the ITV reality series will experience a new twist. According to The Mirror, I'm A Celebrity bosses are reportedly clamping down on stars who repeatedly do Bushtucker trials and steal the limelight in a major rule shake-up. The publication revealed how contestants will no longer be able to do more than two trials in a row. It follows last year's star Dean McCullough, who was voted to participate in a total of seven Bushtucker Trials, two of which he ended early.
At the time, ITV host Ant McPartlin expressed his frustration with Dean repeatedly being put up for trial, saying: "Who's still voting for Dean, I don't get it."
Several ITV fans were also convinced Dean was faking his tears to ensure he was repeatedly voted for by viewers at home. Dean later said his tears were "100 per cent real."
The major rule shake-up will also effectively prevent the public from targeting certain celebrities as much as before. In previous years, famous faces such as Helen Flanagan and Gillian McKeith were constantly chosen by fans.
Instead, viewers at home will be unable to vote for that person for a third consecutive day, but then the system will be "reset," allowing that celebrity to be voted for again.
A source said to The Mirror: "Celebrities all want the opportunity to take on a Bushtucker Trial and bring home stars for camp. Viewers would much prefer to see different celebrities take on the iconic Bushtucker Trials as opposed to the same person every day."
The source added: "This is a great move for fans of the show so we don't see the same faces doing the trials, as well as uncovering new favourites. Plus it's a win-win for the celebs too, who are keen for more chances to get their personalities across."
