
Monty Don has been the lead presenter on Gardeners' World since 2003. The gardening expert has been fronting the BBC show from his own garden for over decade having taken a short break from the programme in 2008 until 2011. The on-screen star has been celebrated on the official Gardeners' World social media account in a candid announcement as Monty marked a huge milestone on Tuesday.
Taking to their X account it read: "Monty turns 70 today! Living proof that gardening keeps you young. Please join us in wishing Monty a very Happy Birthday! #GardenersWorld." The heartwarming birthday message was accompanied by a candid shot of a smiling Monty holding the paws of his beloved dog, Ned, who often features on the show.
He was swiftly inundated with celebratory messages as Monty turns another year older.
One fan gushed: "Happy birthday Monty. Whoop whoop," while another quipped: "I don't believe it. Happy birthday Monty."
A third penned: "A very happy birthday to the most genuine presenter on the BBC..."
"Happy birthday Monty Don! Looking cool and rudely young and healthy. Good luck to you, our favourite gardening guru," a fourth praised.
A fifth added: "Oh yes, happy birthday Monty for sharing so much gardening joy with the world. Enjoyed reading The Jewel Garden many years ago. Keep well."
Elsewhere, the BBC presenter was inundated with messages of support after Monty paid tribute to his beloved golden retrievers Nell and Nigel, as he shared a photo of the dogs together.
In a heartbreaking Instagram post shared on Saturday, he wrote: "10 years ago today: Nigel and Nell."
Nigel died in May 2020, and his other dog, Nell, passed away in October 2023 after a battle with cancer. Both dogs were well-known to viewers of his show, Gardener's World.
