Holidaymakers planning to soak up the sun in Spain this summer are being advised to be mindful of where they vape. Experts from One Sure Insurance have issued a warning to the 5.6 million Brits who vape about the potential legal consequences of vaping on Spanish beaches.
Spain, known for its budget-friendly holidays and beautiful coastlines, has introduced a new law that prohibits vaping on many public beaches. Those who flout the rules could face fines of up to £1,600 (1,900 euros).
In contrast, the UK does not impose restrictions on vaping in public spaces, with the decision left to individual businesses or venue owners, and it is generally allowed at outdoor events. However, this is not the case in Spain, where public beaches are designated as no-vaping zones.
The experts cautioned: "We urge Brits to familiarise themselves with regulations before travelling abroad, to avoid fines and penalties." They added that some countries, including popular destinations like France, have banned vaping following Belgium's lead, which was the first EU country to prohibit the sale of disposable vapes.
So, while it might be tempting to unwind on the beach with your vape, breaking these rules could result in a hefty fine. Spain has implemented stricter rules on vaping in public places, including many beaches, due to concerns over public health and the environment.

has offered crucial advice for travellers looking to bring their e-cigarettes on holiday, urging them to check local regulations before setting off. Its experts highlighted: "Certain countries also ban the sale of flavoured vapes, such as in the Netherlands.
"For those planning to enjoy their e-cigarettes in the sun, it's vital to be informed about local laws, especially in countries like Spain where vaping is banned on certain beaches. Before travelling, it's a good idea to consult government resources for your destination to ensure you're up-to-date with current regulations, not those just on vaping. If you're unsure, it's always better to be safe and avoid vaping on beaches that may have specific laws in place."
