Hyderabad: The Assam police reportedly arrested Aminul Islam, an MLA of the opposition party All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) over his comments on the militant attacks in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, and in Pulwama on February 14, 2019.
Islam claimed the suicide bombing of a convoy of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Pulwama, and the killing of 26 tourists in Pahalgam, were “conspiracies by the government.”
The Assam Police filed a case suo motu against Islam after a video of his comment went viral on social media.
“On the basis of a misleading and instigating statement by Dhing MLA Aminul Islam in public that went viral, and had the potential to create an adverse situation, Nagaon PS Case 347/25 was registered for offences u/s 152/196/197(1)/113(3)/352/353 BNS. He has been arrested accordingly,” the Assam Police said in a post on X, on Thursday, April 24.

“We are trying to take action against anyone who is trying, directly or indirectly, to defend Pakistan after the terror attack. We found the statement and videos of MLA Aminul Islam on social media, and he has been found to be supportive of Pakistan, so we filed a case,” Sarma told reporters.
Aminul Islam said, “Back in 2019, when the Pulwama attack killed 42 CRPF jawans, I had said it was a conspiracy by the Centre to polarise the country before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and demanded an unbiased investigation.”
He further questioned the narrative around the recent Pahalgam attack, alleging that, “BJP has been saying that terrorists checked whether one is Hindu or Muslim and shot only the non-Muslims after identifying. However, survivors and victims have said no one was asked their names and that they were simply fired upon from a distance.”
“We suspect that what happened in Pahalgam is a similar conspiracy of the Centre to incite hatred and violence against the Muslims across the country for political gain,” said Aminul Islam.
