KALABURAGI: At least five people, including a 13-year-old girl, died and several others were injured after the minibus they were travelling in rammed into a parked truck near Nelogi Cross in Jewargi taluk in the early hours of Saturday, according to police reports.
The victims, all from Bagalkote, were travelling to a dargah in Kalaburagi district when the incident took place at around 3.30am.
Police officials reported that the truck was stationed on the road's left side due to a punctured tyre. As the driver was replacing the tyre, the mini bus carrying dargah-bound passengers crashed into the truck's rear.
Kalaburagi superintendent of police, A Srinivasulu, confirmed that five passengers lost their lives instantly at the scene, whilst numerous others sustained injuries.
The injured passengers were transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention, where they are currently receiving treatment.
The mini bus driver abandoned the vehicle and escaped from the accident site.
Police authorities are currently assessing the total number of injured individuals. They have registered a case and are actively pursuing the driver who fled the scene.
