Jamshedpur: The carcass of an adult male tusker was found lying in a field on the outskirts of Serangsia village under the Tonto police station limits in West Singhbhum district on Thursday morning by locals, a forest official said.
Chaibasa divisional forest officer (DFO) Aditya Narayan said, "Preliminary investigation does not suggest any suspected human intervention nor is there a burn injury on the body to suggest electrocution. We will receive the post-mortem report on Friday. We will also send the viscera to the forensic laboratory in Ranchi to probe the toxicology angle. The autopsy and the forensic reports will determine the actual cause of death."
The deceased 45-year-old elephant was part of a herd of 12 elephants that had damaged crops and houses at Serangsia and surrounding villages over the past eight days, he added.
