Akshaya Tritiya 2025: Significance
Akshaya Tritiya is one of the most significant festivals in Hindu religion. Akshaya is a Sanskrit term that signifies "imperishable" or "never diminishing." Therefore, there will always be advantages to performing Japa (mantra repetition), Yajna (sacrifice rite), Pitra Tarpan (honoring one's ancestors), or Dan Punya (charity). Akshaya Tritiya is mainly celebrated by Hindus and Jains. In Hinduism, this day is associated with Mahabharata, when Shri Krishna gave "Akshaya Patra," a container of food that never runs out to Pandavas. On this propitious day, Lord Vishnu's sixth incarnation, Lord Parshuram was born. Jain people commemorates the first Tirthankara's one-year austerity on this day. It is considered auspicious to purchase gold, launch a new business, or even carry out a charitable deed on this day. People worship the goddess Lakshmi, who is the goddess of prosperity and good fortune, and Lord Vishnu, who is the preserver and guardian of the cosmos.
Akshaya Tritiya 2025: Puja Rituals
1. Devotees take a bath in a sacred river or at home. Using tulsi, sandalwood, ghee lamps, and sweets, a puja (worship) of Lord Vishnu, Goddess Lakshmi, and Lord Ganesha is conducted. Chanting Lakshmi or Vishnu Sahasranama mantras is regarded as very auspicious. As part of the rituals, devotees also offer rice, barley, and white sesame seeds.
2. It is considered auspicious to feed cows and birds and you must distribute food items, sugar, and water to the underprivileged people. People are also advised to give various food items and milk to Brahmins.
3. Giving money, food, clothing, and water to Akshaya Tritiya is believed to have immense benefits (punya).
4. Purchasing gold, silver, on this day is a common ritual. Gold is a representation of eternal wealth and good fortune.
