Amid speculations over Elon Musk 's exit from the Department of Government Efficiency as he and his company Tesla have come under massive attack because of his involvement in the government, US President Donald Trump told reporters that he does not need Elon for anything. But the comment was more of a praise for Musk and not any indication of any conflict brewing between them as Trump said he does not need Elon Musk for anything apart from the fact that he likes him.
"I don't need Elon for anything other than I happen to like him," Trump said after the cabinet meeting.
The 'don't need Elon for anything' comment came as Elon Musk's DOGE has unearthed what they called a major unemployment insurance scam. It claimed that 24,500 people over 115 years age claimed $59 million in benefits. Similarly, there are people aged between 1 to 5 and people yet to be born who are getting insurance claims since 2020.
But Trump said he does not need Elon Musk for anything. He added that he does not need Elon Musk's car but still bought one as a show of support. "I don't need his car. I actually bought one, and they said, 'Oh, did you get a bargain?' No. I said, 'Give me the top price.' I paid a lot of money for that car," Trump said, adding that he gave the Tesla car to his office and let his staff drive it around.
Did Donald Trump undermine Elon Musk and his DOGE work?
While Donald Trump emphasized that Elon Musk is in the government only because Trump likes him, the president on previous occasions, heaped praises on Elon and what his DOGE did. Recently, Elon Musk revealed that his DOGE work is almost over and after this he will go back to his businesses full time. Vice President JD Vance too hinted the same and said he will always remain a friend and an adviser for Trump and him but his DOGE work will come to an end eventually. Once Trump said he would like to have Elon Musk in the government work as long as possible but then Musk has several businesses to handle and eventually he would go back to his work.
