One person was killed and six others injured during a shooting at Elizabeth City State University, in North Carolina. The incident occurred early Sunday morning at the centre of campus following Viking Fest celebrations, according to a university statement.
A 24-year-old man, who was not a student, died in the attack. His identity is being withheld until his family is notified. Four people, including three students, suffered gunshot wounds but their injuries are not life-threatening. All the victims were taken to hospital for treatment.
The university imposed a campus lockdown and shelter-in-place order, which was later lifted. Officials said there is no ongoing threat to students or staff.
