Prince Andrew 's former girlfriend Lady Victoria Hervey could not stop herself from posting a message after it came to the news that Virginia Giuffre , the woman who accused Prince Andrew of having sex with her when she was 17, died by suicide in Australia. "When lies catch up to you there's no way out," she posted on her Instagram story, leaving no room for any doubt that the words were meant for Guiffre as she shared her death news post and added his comment.
Later, she backtracked from the comment and made another post saying she would pause her posts on the topic as suicide is tragic.
“I have taken the decision to pause my posts on Virginia Giuffre at this time. Irrespective of the circumstances, suicide in anyone at any time is tragic, and in a young mother who has children, even more so," she wrote without deleting the first post.
Hervey and Prince Andrew dated briefly in 1999 after he and his former wife Sarah, Duchess of York, were divorced in 1996. She has since become one of Andrew's most outspoken defenders regarding the allegations made against him by Giuffre. On Instagram, Hervey has an entire story thread dedicated to what she calls "VG lies" in which she posted an AI-generated mockup of Giuffre wearing a shirt reading "fantasist" and claimed that a photograph of Giuffre with Prince Andrew was faked. Andrew too said the photo was fake and denied having sex with Giuffre.
In 2022, Giuffre received a payout from Andrew, though Andrew continued to deny having done anything with Giuffre. As a result of this massive scandal, Prince Andrew had to give up his royal role.
Giuffre was born in California, but her family moved to Palm Beach County, Florida, where Giuffre got a job working as a spa attendant at Mar-a-Lago before being recruited by Ghislaine Maxwell for Epstein under the pretense of working as a masseuse for the billionaire financier. Giuffre alleged she was forced into sexual encounters with Epstein’s powerful associates, including Prince Andrew.
