IndiGo Airlines also issued a statement, citing dust storms in both Delhi and Jaipur as the reason for flight delays and possible diversions, resulting in air traffic congestion across northern India.

IMD’s Weather Warnings: Orange and Yellow Alerts Issued

The IMD issued an Orange Alert for April 11, citing potential for:

• Strong winds at 40–60 km/h

• Dust storms

• Sudden downpours with lightning and thunder

For Saturday, April 12, a Yellow Alert has been issued with continued risks of thunderstorms and gusty winds, while temperatures are expected to range between 20°C (minimum) and 35°C (maximum).

Trees Uprooted, Walls Collapse, Vehicles Damaged

The sudden storm left a trail of destruction across several parts of Delhi:

• In Sarai Rohilla, several vehicles were damaged after a tree collapse.

• In Mandawali’s Chand Vihar, a wall collapsed due to strong winds, reportedly injuring two people.

• Dust clouds and flying debris made visibility poor, disrupting vehicular traffic and pedestrian movement.

Heatwave to Follow Post-Storm: IMD’s Extended Forecast

The IMD has warned of a sharp rise in temperature beginning April 13, marking the end of the current cool spell. Heatwave conditions are expected on:

• April 16 and 17, with maximum temperatures potentially touching 41°C

• A Yellow Alert for heatwave has been issued for both days
